Kortrijk, Belgium, June 6, 2019 – Pool hosts Belgium defeated world champions Serbia in straight sets on Thursday, the last day of week 3 of the 2019 women’s FIVB Volleyball Nations League.

“And they said that we were the underdog,” said Belgian player Marlies Janssens. “It is a pleasure to play in a good acting team, so that we can prove to our supporters that we can make it difficult against the best teams in the world, such as Russia and Serbia. We could put them under pressure with our powerful serves and with good blocks. I’m proud of our team, while even against Poland we were close to the chance of victory. We will work hard in the next few weeks and perhaps we can still create some surprises.”

Serbia player Jelena Blagojevic: “Yes, I’m now going on holidays.Of course I was disappointed by the way our team played. I think we were today a bit tired. But respect for the Belgian team. Their victory is not really a surprise, while we knew they were fighting for each ball. That is exactly the important caracteristic of this team. Serbia is now going to Japan, but without me.”
